Glad to see these old books on Kindle.The transfer is generally okay, but there are enough weird word inserts and paragraph spacing that it can be annoying in some chapters. Taking off a star for that.The stories themselves are semi-pulp and the author definitely uses them to express his own opinions. They will definitely offend some.
Edit: And what the heck is up with the cover art? The old paper cover art was great. These look like weird romance-novels. Seriously with the knights in armor and Fabio-like characters? Not Horseclans at all.

This book is a good read with the flashbacks into Milo Morai's past and the fact that it is set in the earlier years of Horseclans history without all the rubbish that is sometimes in the Ehleen storylines.
I ordered several of these books. I read most of them years ago, but was never able to complete the set. Now that I am old and retired, I came across the ones I had and decided to try to find those that I was missing and read the entire set in order. I received very fast and accurate service from this retailer.
I do like this author's works.

The author was so wrapped up in getting his political views presented to the reader that he forgot to focus on the writing. There were some sections in all of these books that were stellar segments of writing, but most of it was disjointed as he traveled through time from the future to his main characters past, and the transitions were not well done. He would have been better off writing two groups of novels - one a futuristic alternate earth story focused on his characters of the future, and the other a set of novels about living as a soldier during a war and surviving an apocalypse in that time frame. If he had written this as two separate books without the inserted political drivel, both would have been good - but with the confused disjointed jumping back and forth, it was a bitter disappointment. Especially as I had looked forward to reading novels that were about the characters from a short story about the Horseclans which I had previously read.
I am not sure if this one did it (I read the entire series since I had already bought them) but there was also a lot of repeating of earlier writing incorporated into later books that were something of the entirety of the Horseclans sections without any new material of substance about them. Some added new material to previously written sections or added the same story line from a different point of view, but it was interspersed between sections on his other topic.
I enjoyed reading the series again. However the editor or proof reader did a crappy job of formatting spellchecking. Granted Robert Adams developed his own titles and languages throughout the series.....the mistakes I spotted were just simple errors.
The books are a great read. Unfortunately, the publisher did not employ a proofreader. Typos on every page. Very distracting. Also, the new covers are nice - but not accurate. Apparently, the artist did not read the characters' description BEFORE designing the covers.
