After her step-dad, Mahlon, died, Tammy Strobel coped with grief and depression by going for daily walks. One day, Tammy came home from her walk with a new idea. She would start an iPhone photography project that included two passions Mahlon and she shared coffee and the great outdoors. She called her project My Morning View. In this book, Tammy shares her story, photography tips, and a brief how-to guide. She reminds us that even when everything seems to be falling apart, we can find beauty and practice gratitude every day.

I have never in my life read a book by Tammy Strobel. Just the title of this book was enough to draw my interest. I am not a professional photographer and I wouldn't say that I plan to be a professional. However, I do own a camera I love and I do have a camera on my phone. I don't own an iPhone but I do find that the phone camera I have does take good pictures.
About 4 years ago I suffered a traumatic brain injury and have been lost without being able to drive myself anywhere. The thought of taking my camera or phone camera on a daily walk around to get good photos were a great idea.
The pictures taken and shown by Tammy in this book were simply fantastic. Her pet cats and the horses made for a great story. The scenes of the mountains and fields gave me insight into past travels and experiences. I could only hope to take photos half as interesting as her photos.
Do yourself a great favor and purchase this book. I know that you will enjoy it as much as I did and you will even enjoy just looking at the photos. Great photos, great book, and a great author.

My Morning View An iPhone Photography Project about Gratitude Grief Good Coffee Tammy Strobel 9781941142042 Books Reviews

If you think about it, we love to read because it takes us on an adventure. We can go places and experience different things in between our regular routine. This book is a perfect example of why I love to read. The author combines bits of wisdom about life and instruction on photography to take you on an interesting, and fun, journey. This book made me smile many times and I thank the author for the ride.
This book was a nice tribute to the authors step-dad, whom she loved dearly and missed. They shared a passion for coffee and nature, and to be able to work through her grief, she decided to do a photo project of the two subjects they shared a love of. It includes some thoughts and memories, quotes and fun photos of her coffee mugs placed on her morning jaunts. Being into photography myself, I can see how this would be a healing experience and a nice tribute to her step-dad.
I've been following (the author) Tammy Strobel's blog for a couple years. I've been taking two writing classes, and one photography class that Tammy taught. She is very good at helping people finding "their voice", if it is through writing, or photography. In this book she is very up close and personal. Letting the reader help her deal with the grief over her step dad, giving us tools to work through life crises. Of course you can look at her beautiful photography, and just read the book as a "story", but I believe this book has another depth as well, as a sort of self help book. In the end, there's some very useful tips on how to start, and finish projects (like Tammy's series of "Morning View" photos and thoughts.) If you're dreaming of publishing a book, you can find some useful inspiration for that as well.
I was so happy when this book arrived in the mail! The photos have such a personal perspective. Even when the author has shot a majestic mountain scene, the coffee cup or the cat in the foreground make the image feel approachable and puts a human perspective into it. Tammy has a distinctive style that draws people in and makes them feel they are enjoying the view, a cup of coffee, and a great conversation with her. She truly captures everyday magic in these sweet photos and text that reminds you to look for beauty in the world around you especially if you are grieving or troubled. I took Tammy's online photography class last summer and it changed not only the way I take photos, but also the way I see the world. I will treasure this book as a reminder to not just look at the world around me, but also to see it and be grateful for beauty where ever it can be found whether in a glorious natural setting or the graceful swish of a cat's tail.
What a delightful book, short and sweet! I liked all the photos and loved some of them. I agree with the author on her tips for good photos, and the book inspired me to go outside and take some shots myself, which I did as soon as I finished reading her book - before writing this review. I find that taking close-up shots of bugs or weeds or other things you might think are ugly can lift one's spirits. A close-up photo often shows lots of beauty in those "ugly" things. Now I need to download my photos, do a little editing and see the end results.
I love Tammy Strobel's books. This book helped me see that grieving is a much BIGGER thing than most of us realize unless we are paying attention like Tammy was. I lost my Dad about the same time as she lost hers and this book helped me see that its okay to really grieve our loss. It is extremely painful, but that pain works us through so much. The grieving of my Dad was the worst thing I ever experienced in my life, but it was also the most healing and cleansing thing in my life - and I am over 60 years old. Dad was 91 when he died. Besides that I love the unique photos in this book - the angles, the light, the coffee, the kitties - ALL of it!! I love the photography tips too. This is my new coffee table book for everyone to pick up when they come into my living room. I am buying more for gifts this holiday season ) Thank you Tammy for sharing your heartache so that I could recognize mine and for sharing your beautiful, unique photography!!
